Introducing
the Pacific Lifter

The Pacific Lifter is one of the world’s great crane barges. First built as the McDermott DB17, an 860ST manned crane derrick barge intended for at-sea pipelaying and oil rig construction work in the North Sea, it now continues its legacy under Stor Kran Company — available for contract or rental worldwide.

Overview

The Pacific Lifter: Heavy-Lift Heritage Reimagined

Originally built as the McDermott DB17, the DB Pacific Lifter began its life as a manned 860-ton derrick barge designed for pipelaying and oil rig construction in the North Sea during the 1960s. Decades later, the barge was reengineered and modernized for a new generation of marine heavy-lift work.

In 2018, Boyer Towing and Pacific Pile & Marine acquired the vessel, beginning a complete rebuild to transform it into a high-capacity, ABS-approved floating crane system. With structural, stability, and systems engineering completed by West Sound Maritime and supported by in-house Naval Architecture software, the DB Pacific Lifter now stands as one of the most capable and analytically refined derrick barges operating on the West Coast.
